Mental Health does not discriminate and neither do we
Anyone can be effected by mental health difficulties. In a study 23% of LGBTQIA+ people said they had faced decimation in health care settings. Many LGBTQIA+ people have shared they have been put off accessing services due to the fear of discrimination they may face. Hear Us believes everyone should be able to access mental health support and services without the fear of desimation, homerphiboa or transphobia. Hear Us strives to be a welcoming and safe place for everyone from the Croydon mental health community, including those from the LGBTQIA+ community. Any discriminatory behaviour will not tolerated at Hear Us.
Celebrating Pride Month
For LGBTQIA+ Pride Month last June, our Reachout Create Project ran a banner-making workshop, creating Banners and signs for the Croydon Pride Parade. This workshop brought together the LGBTQIA+ Community with the wider mental health community. Together we shared and learned about the different flags and identities that make up the LGBTQIA+ acronym. This inspired the group to create a communal banner featuring handprints from all the different pride flags. The group created a range of banners on topics such as the benefit cuts, mental health and LGBT Issues.
Croydon Pride
Hear Us attended Croydon Pride last July and took part in the Pride Parade. The weather may have been rainy, but that did not dampen the fantastic spirit of the event. We have attended Pride for many years for two main reasons. 1. To connect with the local LGBTQIA+ mental health service users. 2. To show our support to the LGBTQIA+ community and the issues that affect them.
Support of Trans Communities
In light of the recent ruling by the UK Supreme Court about the 2010 Equality Act, Hear Us wanted to show our support the trans community. At Croydon Pride Hear Us staff and volunteers held up banners with messages supporting the Trans community. Hear Us is committed to maintaining a welcoming and safe space for all members of the Trans community.
