Campaigns Project Aims

Croydon’s Mental Health Service User Group
Hear Us Croydon / Campaigns Project Aims

Hear Us is running a three-year long Campaigning Project with funding awarded by Trust for London. We wish to build a movement run and led by people with lived experience of using mental health services or struggling with mental health. In line with Inclusion London’s Guide on Talking About Disability, we want to do this using the social model of disability.

Hear Us is calling on members of the Croydon community to join this movement. We are looking for community voices to educate, inform and influence for change to improve the lives of some of the most disadvantaged and vulnerable in our communities. We aim to do this through awareness raising, and campaigning for change in our public services and in the wider community.

As a user-led organisation, Hear Us recognises that services are often done to us with limited opportunity to influence what and how it is received. This vastly reduces our chances of recovery and of living a fulfilling life as people with lived experience. By building our organisation’s campaigning capacity, we aim to change the way services are planned, funded, developed, and delivered. Our main mission is for service user voices to be a part of these processes.

Our organisation has already made strides in campaigning, and we would like to increase our capacity for doing this through all our projects. Already, our Linkworkers have co-produced changes to Mental Health services in Croydon that reduce physical restraint on the wards with all the inherent dangers that can arise. Our Reach Out project is our organisation’s an anti-stigma campaign raising awareness of mental health issues amongst public sector employees and the wider public.

Please join us to help take our changemaking one step further by stepping up to lead our campaigns and have first say on what we campaign about. Like all Hear Us activities, we wish for our campaigns to be co-designed, co-produced, and co-delivered. Therefore, we will make sure you have the resources, guidance, and support you need to make noise about the causes you are most passionate about changing in mental health.

We have the following aims:

To reach more people in the Mental Health community

To empower marginalized and hard to reach service users to campaign

To improve data collection and presentation across Hear Us projects

Our top three objectives through which will achieve these aims are:

Advertise our membership and volunteer opportunities

Initiate partnerships with like-minded voluntary organisations

Evaluate data collection and monitoring practices across projects

This Project is funded by Trust For London
