World Mental Health Day 2024
Join us on this October 10th 2024 to celebrate World Mental Health Day under the theme ‘It is time to prioritise mental health in the workplace’. Hear Us invites you to take part in the shift from profession to purpose.
Hear Us is a 100% user led organisation. This means that all of our employees have lived experience of poor mental health or mental health conditions. When we talk about mental health in the workplace, we know the conversation has to go beyond paid employment to include other circumstances like volunteering or unpaid caring. Over the last month, we did some research in our community to gather your views on this.
We specifically focused on the statistic that only 10-15% of people with serious mental health conditions are in paid employment. We asked what you identify as the problem, who you believe is responsible for implementing the solution, and what those solutions could look like.
Here is what you identified as the problems we can address about mental health in the workplace.
For this World Mental Health Day, we are making a commitment to follow through on this research.
We would like to thank everybody who contributed for your honesty, imagination, and passion. Through your responses, we have learned what you, as people with lived experience of mental health needs, want to see improved in our society when it comes to mental health and paid work. We have used your responses to imagine what the DWP, Minister of Disability, and top employers need to do to work with Disabled people to make our visions a reality.
Our next step is to come together as a Disability Justice movement and ask ourselves what we need to be asking for, and if this fits the demands of the wider movement. We would value your input on this. Contact campaignsproject@hear-us.org to share your views.
