Sailing
with Mind in Croydon
Mind
in Croydon are now in their 5th year of
working with the London Sailing Project
to provide sailing opportunities for people
with mental health problems. This year
they are organising three trips for either
2 or 4 days each:
12th - 14th May
30th May - 1st June
21st - 25th September
They will be using
the London Sailing Project yacht Helen
Mary R, and will be taking seven service
users on each trip, plus 1:1 support.
Everybody on board will be expected to
take as full a part in the sailing and
domestic tasks as they are able, including
cooking, washing up, steering, handling
the sails, and if you want to, the navigation.
The aim is that everybody
will come back feeling that they have
had a fun holiday, but also that you have
been challenged and have achieved something
worthwhile. The trips are suitable for
adventurous beginners. You don't need
to be an athlete, but you do need to be
able to move safely around the boat, and
get on and off in order to get ashore.
Cost will be £70
for the two days, and £130 for the
four days. This will include all food,
and use of waterproof clothing, life jackets
and safety harnesses while on board. Transport
from Croydon is also included.
