Crocus is the network for Croydon’s Lesbian, Gay Bisexual and Trans (LGBT) community in CroydonINVITATION TO CROYDON’S FIRST LGBT CONFERENCE

Crocus is the network for Croydon’s Lesbian, Gay Bisexual and Trans (LGBT) community in Croydon.  It seeks to provide a strong voice for that community.

Across Britain, February is LGBT History Month.   There are many activities in Croydon to mark LGBT History Month, from a civic reception at the Town Hall to films to gatherings of younger LGBT residents through to events at Croydon College and Croydon University Hospital.  This is the fourth year in succession that Crocus, working in partnership with LGBT groups in the borough, Croydon Council, the Police and other partners, have organised a programme of events during February.

However, one event this year is a first.  Crocus has organised an LGBT Conference on 22 February at Ruskin House, 23 Coombe Road.  There will be two parts to this public meeting.

From 5-7pm, They will be looking at the issues in schools and colleges, for LGBTQ (Lesbian Gay Bisexual Trans and Questioning) pupils and the whole area of homophobic and transphobic bullying and prejudice.  All Croydon schools have been asked to send relevant teachers to the event – and we will have first-hand accounts from younger Croydon residents who are either in Croydon’s school system or have recently experienced it.

From 7.30-9.30pm, there will be an open session on quality of life in Croydon for the LGBT community.  This will be chaired by Chair of Crocus, Rob Elliott and the Panel will include Borough Commander David Musker, Cabinet Member for Communities & Big Society, Cllr Vidhi Mohan and Shadow Cabinet Member for Communities & Big Society, Cllr Matthew Kyeremeh.

If you feel that this would be of interest to you, please do come along and also feel free to pass this invitation on to others.

They are very aware that you may be interested by one or other of the sessions, so feel free to attend either or both sessions.

In order to assist with planning, please let Simon Hall know (020 8404 3454, crocus@pipstar.net) if you are attending.

Yours faithfully

Rob Elliott, Chair of Crocus
