Westways Rehabilitation Unit Satisfaction
Questionnaire
Hear Us User Group
recently carried out an audit of Westways
Rehabilitation Unit using the 'Westways
Inpatient Satisfaction Questionnaire',
written by Hear Us user group with input
from the patients on the ward
The Questionnaire was
designed in consultation with In-Patients
on the ward, from topics, issues and concerns
targeted by the In-patients on the Ward
and by Hear Us User Group
Questionnaires were
left on the ward so that the Patients
could familiarise themselves with it one
week before the day of the audit by their
request, and this report uses data captured
using the questionnaire on the day of
the audit
The aim of the questionnaire
was to replace the user satisfaction survey
which was thought by the staff at Westways
Rehab Unit to be limited in its purpose
and to involve the Service Users of the
Unit in the design through discussion
and highlighting areas of the service
they wanted questions asked. It would
also give the service users a sense that
this tool/questionnaire belonged to them.
Hear Us User Group
as a service user group carried out the
audit using one of the organisations Linkworkers;
Service Users that have been trained in
interviewing service users.
The Westways Rehab
Unit was audited on 31st May 2007.
8 of a possible 15 in-patients participated.

Summary
of Report Findings
The theme of involvement
and participation seems to run through the
results: Patients
highlighting that they are not fully being
involved in their care planning whether
this being having their views, concerns
heard and if they feel included in their
conference review. Also they feel that
they are not being included and or have
the feeling that they are not participating
in the planning of their own Care Plan
Approach (CPA).
Patients being involved
in choice whether this is in regard to
ward food and activities
Patients concerns with
their environment whether they feel they
can’t converse with other patients
and having a platform to resolve this.
Patients stated that
they don’t receive adequate information
whether it’s the information/welcome
pack, complaints procedure, advocacy and
the benefits. And a lack of control in
the level and quality of information provided
Ward activities and
OT time being undersubscribed indicates
lack of interest to patients and when
asked about the choice of access to the
Cinema and more physical activities patients
showed their interest.

an initial response to them can be accessed
